Rules and Regulations

Please familiarize yourself with the rules for wave surfing. It is essential that all participants follow these guidelines to ensure a fair and safe competition. We follow the rules of the ISA (International Surfing Association), which you can find here:

  • Rulebook — International Surfing Association

  • Code of Conduct — International Surfing Association

Key points:

Judging Criteria in Shortboarding:
Surfers must perform according to the ISA judging key elements to maximize their scoring potential. Judges analyze the following major elements when scoring a ride:

  • Commitment and degree of difficulty

  • Innovative and progressive maneuvers

  • Combination of major maneuvers

  • Variety of maneuvers

  • Speed, power, and flow

Note: The emphasis on certain elements depends on the location and the conditions on the day, as well as any changes in conditions throughout the day.

Scoring Scale:

  • 0.1 – 1.9 = Poor

  • 2.0 – 3.9 = Fair

  • 4.0 – 5.9 = Average

  • 6.0 – 7.9 = Good

  • 8.0 – 10.0 = Excellent

Please read and understand the Interference Rules and Priority in a Non-Priority surf contest.
Interference in or out of the water results in disqualification.

DO NOT SURF AFTER YOUR HEAT HAS FINISHED – this will result in disqualification.

Food and Drinks

We recommend bringing plenty of food and water to stay hydrated and keep your energy levels up. The days are long, so make sure to wear warm clothing.

Health and Safety

We prioritize the health and safety of all participants. In case of accidents or injuries, please inform one of our officials if you need assistance.
